Working with the David Hockney piece A Bigger Splash as inspiration, the David Laport Woolmark Collection was created. Fascinated by how the painting depicts the feeling of water splashing on the viewers face, David wanted to capture moments of water in action, translating the ‘splash’, into the collection by way of fabric development and designs. Using innovative fabric development to drive the collection of six dresses, unique Merino wool fishnets, crepes and fringed fabrics introduced a new look to the world of wool. Utilising a coherent colour palette of pink, orange, white, blue and black, David pays homage to the bright, dynamic extraordinary use of this material and its sculptural capabilities to interpret the painting’s persuasive Californian vibes.
